One way to save drive space in your computer or USB device is by compressing your files in folder.

Data compression is a process used for encoding large files and then shrinking or compressing them in a folder. They are sometimes referred to as “zipped” folders primarily becasue .zip is the file format used for compressed folders.

Compressing data in a folder allows you to save memory or hard disk space and at the same time it enables faster bandwidth transmission.

Creating a compressed folder is pretty simple. Here's an easy step by step guide on how to create compressed folder:

1.Click the START button
2.Double click the MY COMPUTER button
3.Select and then double click a folder where you want to put your compressed folder.
4.Point the mouse arrow on the FILE MENU.
5.Click the NEW button and then select COMPRESSED or ZIPPED Folder.
6.Label the compressed folder by typing in a new name.
7.Once your done typing, press ENTER in your keyboard.
8.You can add items by dragging the files to the zipped folder.

If the files you've compressed in the folder are confidential or classified, you may want to protect it by adding a password. Here's how:

1.Select and double click the compressed folder
2.Point your mouse on the FILE MENU and then click ADD PASSWORD
3.Type the password name in the PASSWORD BOX.
4.Retype the password in the CONFIRM PASSWORD tab.
5.Click OK.
